The objects in the exhibition “Listening to Our Ancestors” in the National Museum of the American Indian keep calling childish: A box drum, painted with a stylized red and black beaver, resembles a root Nisga’a version of Felix the Cat . A brilliant blue, ermine, balanced tunic of the Tlingit community, hair goat wool and cedar bark herds, virtually invites a game of dress-up.
